 ♣Different Morphological Variation
Growth Habit

Instruction: Wild-type sesame characterizes indefinite growth habit, which is considered as one of the key factors that prevent mechanized harvesting and the expansionof its cultivation, thus the definite mutant may be a useful germplam for breeding.

Branching Style
Instruction: Sesame has been classed into uniculm (1), few (2-3), or many (more than 3)branch styles, but most uniculm and branched lines have the potential to branch in every leaf axil. The amount of branches in sesame varies with different growing conditions.
Flowers per Axil

Instruction: Sesame blooms from about 4–6 node pairs to the top of the plant. Its blooming period usually lasts for one month.Singleflower and tripleflowers per axil are more prevalent in sesame germplasm. In China, most cultivars belong to triple-flower type.
Flower Color
Instruction: The flowersof sesame arelabiate in general. Its color range from white to purple, thus sesame is also a plant for ornamental use.
Capsules per Axil
Instruction: Capsules are formed from flowers in the leaf axil. Capsule number is one of the key factors in determination of the yield of sesame. IGPRI classifies capsule arrangement as mono-capsular or multi-capsular according to the capsule number per leaf axil. Single capsule and triple capsule types are more prevalent.
Number of Carpels
Instruction: The number of carpels in the capsules of sesame varies from two to five, but more carpels are also observed in some strains sometime.People once felt more carpels might be possible to increase the yield of sesame, but the cultivar with more carpels usually associates with less seed per carpels and lower 1,000-seed weight.
Capsule Color
Instruction: Except for green capsule, yellow and purple are also observed in some sesame, which may be the candidate strains for studying chlorophyll contents and photosynthesis.
Capsule Size
Instruction: The sizes of sesame capsules are mainly different in length. The short capsule of 1.5 cm and the long capsule of 5 cm have been observed. However, longer capsule not mean more seeds born.
Seed Coat Color

Instruction: Sesame seed coat color varied in a broad range from white to black. In China, sesame with black coat color is taken as more helpful to human health. For example, it is traditionally considered to be benefit for black hair, and thus more expensive than white sesame.
Seed Size
Instruction: Seed size is generally associated with the 1,000-seed weight. The 1,000-seed weight of sesame is about 2.8g in average, but the biggest may be over 3.5g and the smallest may be less than 1.5g.
Closed Corolla
Instruction: Although sesame is traditionally considered to be a self-pollinating plant, it is also subjected to crossed pollination by insects such as butterflies and bees, as most sesame strains have opened corolla. The closed corolla can be used to keep the homozygosity of sesame.
Dwarf Sesame
Instruction: Most cultivars or germplasm have plant heightsover 1.8 m in normal planting condition, which is easily subjected to lodging. The dwarf genotypes are useful for improving the lodging resistance of sesame.
